Giving Back Some Brotherly Love: Gobble Gobble!

turkeys.jpgAh, Turkey Day. The official kick-off of six weeks of too much eating, too much drinking, and probably a little too much carousing. If you're like Phillyist, part of this weekend will be devoted to making sure all the Thanksgiving fixings are squared away in the pantry (or else, trying to find someone who will feed you that day). In the rush of the holidays, though, it's easy to forget those that can't stock up on frozen turkeys and candied yams at a whim. Phillyist really digs workplace food drives... but our commute is a little too complicated to allow us to lug even a small sack of canned pumpkin with us. Luckily, Philabundance is once again making it very easy to donate the component parts, including the bird, of the traditional spread with their Turkey Round-Up tomorrow at area Acmes (they'll also be accepting donations at their Galloway Street headquarters). You can zip through the market, even doing your normal shopping besides, and drop off your donations at the door. Their goal this year is 3000 turkeys, up from the goal of 2500 last year, a mark they met handily.

Of course you're always able to donate funds directly to Philabundance. Donations in someone's name also make a wonderful holiday gift. And if you miss this weekend but still want that case of canned green beans to go to good use, Philabundance has several other drives including the WMMR Camp Out For Hunger taking place from December 4-8 and 6ABC's Holiday Food Drive going on now through the 22nd. Now, pass that turkey leg.
