Guilty as Charged

FOBPoster.jpgEveryone at Phillyist has guilty pleasures, some guiltier than others. For Editor Jill and me, one of our biggest guilty pleasures of 2007 has been Fall Out Boy's (MySpace) latest album, Infinity on High. Before you roll your eyes and click down to the next post, hear us out. This album had a lot more thought go into the song structure and overall album structure than most others we've heard lately. So we're giving in to our temptation and going to see Fall Out Boy at the Wachovia Spectrum tonight.

We admit, we weren't big fans of From Under the Cork Tree, but since then, some of the members of Fall Out Boy have worked with other artists, and perhaps from stepping back and helping other bands approach their work, have learned to think more deeply about how they approach their own music. Singer Patrick Stump co-produced and was featured on Gym Class Heroes' (MySpace) latest effort, As Cruel as School Children. That means it's probably no coincidence that Gym Class Heroes are joining Fall Out Boy on this tour.

The last time Phillyist saw Fall Out Boy, we were pleased with their performance, and particularly Stump's vocal work. Spencer thought Stump sounded better live than on CD. If he does, we will be very, very pleased, because he shows some great range on Infinity on High. Guilty or not, if we leave tonight's show pleased with Fall Out Boy's performance, we'll have no problem living with that.
