- What If? is a venerable Marvel title that is essentially a dumping ground for story ideas that aren't going to be included in the official continuity; it's a chance for writers to take past stories into different directions and see how things would play out that way. It's also a chance to be very, very silly.
- The Movie Blog has put together a list of 8 Life Lessons from Star Wars All Kids Should Learn.
- Talk about DIY: a physics undergrad in Nigeria has been collecting old motorcycle and car parts and building helicopters out of them in his backyard.
- The iTunes Music Store has put together some nice collections of Guitar Hero music. (Via)
- You got your sci-fi in my horror! You got your horror in my sci-fi! Cinematical has a list of seven movies featuring two great tastes that taste great together. There are some odd choices here, it seems to us, but Alien is an excellent and essential selection.
- Robert Rodriguez insists the issues over his Barbarella remake (rumored to be about his insistence that his super-hot fiance Rose McGowan play the lead role) have nothing to do with casting and everything to do with the budget. He even says the movie might go back to Universal in the next week.
- Joystiq and Cinematical have both just launched Halloween-themed contests. Joystiq will give you a copy of Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles if you do the best video game-themed pumpkin carving, and Cinematical will give you a prize package of horror DVDs if you come up with the best costume.
- Woo hoo! Rambo IV official trailer! Good stuff. And while we're linking trailers, check out this suprisingly bloody one for the animated film Turok: Son of Stone. And holy crap, the new trailer for I Am Legend is fantastic (via)!
- Joystiq has video of a clever Back to the Future mod for the PC version of GTA: Vice City.
- It's a bit hard to believe, but our friend the iPod turned 6 years old yesterday.
- Also hard to believe: Goonies 2 is looking more and more like it might actually happen.
- Producer Brian Grazer isn't being coy about just what he's trying to do with his upcoming "revisionist epic," Nottingham. Not only has he got Ridley Scott directing and Russell Crowe starring as Robin Hood, he's actually said that "Nottingham is the Gladiator version of Robin Hood" in an interview.
- The Arcanum sounds like just our kind of book: it "follows Arthur Conan Doyle as he leads a secret society known as the Arcanum—whose members include magician Harry Houdini, voodoo priestess Marie Laveau, and horror writer H.P. Lovecraft—against a powerful supernatural force that threatens the world." And hey, now they're going to make a movie, with writer/director Randall Wallace in the captain's chair! Nice.
- We can't say we're too interested in Harold & Kumar 2 as a movie, but we have to admit, this poster is hilarious. (Via)
