When we get press releases about bands we've never heard of, we'll occasionally contact our friends in their cities of origin to see if the bands are worth catching when they come through Philly. Chicago-based band OFFICE is one such band. We talked to a friend of ours who used to write for Chicagoist, and he told us that we had to, had to, had to, catch OFFICE, because they were bound to go places, and we needed to check them out before they got too big.
Sold.
Then we heard the music. And we were even more sold. OFFICE's debut album, A Night at the Ritz, is the kind of infectious, slightly nerdy, indie pop that makes us bounce along in our seats while we're trying really hard to get work done at the office. On those particularly stressful days on the job, it's one of the first things we choose from our iTunes folder. So it's nice to know that today, on what's shaping up to be the fourth stressful day of a quite stressful week, we'll get to do one better and actually see OFFICE at Johnny Brenda's. (We'll be the ones on the balcony, bouncing along to the music on our barstools.)
OFFICE will be playing tonight with Earlimart, another upbeat and poppy indie band (this one out of LA) who we hadn't heard of before this show – but if they sound as good live as they do on their MySpace page, we think we're all set for a night of feel-good music in Fishtown.
