The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

- Blender claims to have put together a list of the 40 Worst Lyricists in Rock, but they've done a pretty awful job. We'll admit that everybody on this list has written very bad lyrics at one time or another, but people like Paul McCartney, Billy Corgan, Jim Morrison, and the members of Genesis have also written great big piles of really excellent lyrics, so it's hard to understand how they could be included with the likes of Kevin Federline, Scott Stapp, Neil Peart, and Fred Durst. And Sting as the worst lyricist ever? That's just patently wrong. The man has written some of the best pop songs of all time. Man, now we're just pissed. You pissed us off, Blender!
- Ten professionals talk about the impact of the internet on writers. Speaking as someone who writes on the internet, we're intrigued. (Via Jill)
- Nintendo just put out a bunch of exciting announcements pretty much all at once, so we're going to try to sum them up in one bullet point: Sonic the Hedgehog is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you'll soon be able to download demos for DS games on your Wii, and a bunch of new Wii titles have had their release dates announced/confirmed.
- Fans of Lovecraft's universe will enjoy these Records That Should Not Be.
- Um, did you know that a researcher "has built a synthetic chromosome out of laboratory chemicals and is poised to announce the creation of the first new artificial life form on Earth." Gah! We can make artificial life now?! Holy crap!! (Via)
- The Soviet Union was developing a laser space battle station called Skif from the beginning of the 1980s. An unarmed prototype was created around 1985 and actually launched in 1987, but the project was scrapped when the Soviet Union fell. You may now begin freaking out. (Via)
- Good news: an incredible, gigantic, blockbuster script for the Thor movie has been written. Bad news: it would have cost $300 million dollars to make, so they've scrapped it and asked for a new script that will only cost $150 million.
- In response to the controversy about recent comments that Warner Bros. supposedly made about avoiding female leads in their future films, The Movie Blog has put together a list of their favorite films with female leads.
- Looks like there's a new thriller coming out soon called Game which is about people trapped inside a massively multiplayer online game. One of them gets tired of having his strings pulled and decides to tear the whole system down. The hero is played by Gerard Butler and the villain by Michael C. Hall.
- Bad news for those of us who disliked Transformers: Transformers 2 has been fast-tracked, with Spielberg trying to get the story out in the next 30 days, and planning for Le Beouf to return as Sam for multiple Transformers films. Argh!
- A director has been hired for the computer-animated Thundercats movie; it'll be the feature film directing debut for video-game art director Jerry O'Flaherty.
- Chris Weitz, director of the film adaptation of The Golden Compass, has decided, with the approval of author Philip Pullman, to move the last three chapters of the first book into the beginning of the second movie. Which actually sounds like a pretty good idea to us, as the second book starts in a completely different place and time and takes a long time to get going, and this might help connect it into the story as a whole better.
- The comedic adaptation of Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell just got the green light from Universal Pictures, and we're kind of ridiculously excited about it.
- A title and other interesting details have come out about Terminator 4. It'll be called Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, it's supposed to be released in summer 2009, and should cost a bit less than Terminator 3's $200 million, though it's meant to be on the same size and scale.
- Eric Bana has apparently been officially cast as Nero, the principle villain in the upcoming Star Trek movie, and rumor is that newcomer Chris Pine will play Kirk.
- The latest Cinematical Seven list is a particularly strong one, this time focusing on Great Low-Budget Sci-Fi. We second their recommendations of Primer, Mad Max, and Pi. And yeah, Cube was pretty good, too, even if the ending was corny.
- Radiohead's crazy experiment begins today, in case you forgot. And now it looks like NIN might be following their lead.

Game sounds like Tron: The Next Generation.
Transformers 2 is yet another movie that should not be made.
The Land of the Lost movie is yet more proof that Hollywood is deciding it is easier to look at their back catalog instead of come up with anything new and worthy of spending $12 on.
As for the Soviet laser deathstar, it was probably made with Lada parts, so no need to panic.
