- Sadly, we have a lot of notes about violent crime this morning. First up is the story of a brutal mugging, and the act of a good Samaritan that may very well have saved the victim's life (via Jill). That incident occurred some time ago, but early Saturday morning a gunman fired into a crowd outside Club Polaris, killing two young men and injuring three more. The club has been closed by the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections for various violations. A man was also shot to death in Mantua early this morning, a Temple student was attacked and robbed in her apartment at 13th and Spruce, and a man stabbed his mother and his brother after an argument over money in Northeast Philadelphia yesterday - his brother later died. Finally, an armed man had a four hour stand-off with police at St. Mary Medical Center in Bucks County last night, leading to a lockdown of the hospital, but thankfully he ultimately surrendered without incident, with no shots fired and no one hurt.

- Rapper Beanie Sigel rented a 2007 Nissan Altima from Payless Car Rental in Southwest Philadelphia in July, but didn't return the car in time or contact the company, so Sigel will now surrender himself to police next week to face charges. Apparently the car has now been returned, and Sigel's lawyer says the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
