What's new and/or interesting on TV this week.
Aliens in America (Mon, 8:30PM-9PM, The CW) - Here's an interesting show premise: a Pakistani Muslim exchange student named Raja comes to a Wisconsin town and is not exactly welcomed with open arms. In fact, in this first episode, his host family have to decide whether to send him back, as they weren't expecting a Muslim. We're betting they decide to keep him. He gets help adjusting from a nerdy 16-year-old (another nerd! We love TV these days).
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Mon, 10PM-10:30PM, Food Network) - We love every episode of this show about fun and interesting examples of the titular restaurant types from around the country, but this episode is of particular interest, as it features an old Philadelphia diner, and spotlights their fried spring rolls.
Cavemen (Tue, 8PM-8:30PM, ABC) - Well, here it is: the show based on a series of car insurance commercials. It's about cavemen somehow living in modern times. In this first episode, one of the group of cavemen tries to keep his homo-sapien wife a secret from his friends and brother.
Pushing Daisies (Wed, 8PM-9PM, ABC) - This new show is getting a lot of good buzz. It's about a guy with the power to bring the dead back to life, and how he uses it to solve murders - and resurrect his childhood sweetheart.
Smallville (Thu, 8PM-9PM, The CW) - Clark's cousin Kara - also known as Supergirl - gets introduced in this episode, but without Lana, Clark decides there's no reason to hang around, so he goes to the Fortress of Solitude to train as a superhero. However, while he's there, Jor-El tells him Kara's Dad is evil, and Kara herself is dangerous, and thus Clark must return to Smallville.
Next Iron Chef (Sun, 9PM-10PM, Food Network) - Now here's a reality show we can get behind: it's a competition to decide who will be the next Iron Chef! Naturally Alton Brown is the host. In this first episode, the eight competitors are tested on speed and artistry at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.
