
- Police have charged Duane Jackson, 45, with attempted murder and attempted rape in the case of a woman who was stabbed and sexually assaulted in her home near Center City in July. Authorities suspect Jackson may be responsible for other attacks in the city and are looking into that now, so more charges are probably on the way.
- An appeals court panel has upheld the 81/2-to-17-year prison sentence given to a computer consultant for failing to summon help for the 17-year-old escort who ultimately died of a cocaine overdose in his Willingboro home in 2005.
- Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton held a couple of events at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel yesterday, including a $100 a person meeting/rally for the Club 44 Women's Forum, and a reception afterwards for contributors who had paid $1,000 or $2,300.
- William J. Barnes, the 71-year-old man just charged with murder in the recent death of Philadelphia Police Officer Walter T. Barclay, whom he shot 41 years ago, told CBS3 News yesterday that he regrets the shooting, but that he should not be blamed for the officer's death.
- The National Baptist Convention, USA is holding its 127th annual convention in the city right now. This year they're focusing on the role of music in the past and future of the church.
- A 30-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in the parking lot of the Residence Inn by Marriott near the Philadelphia International Airport last night. Police have determined the identity of the victim, but a detective declined to release it to the Inquirer this morning.
