
- We received some interesting top ten lists from Match.com, as a sort of response to Forbes' annual list of top cities for singles. Philly ranked on every one of them. Amongst "Cities where you will find singles hitting the gym," we took ninth place. On the "Cities committed to healthy diets" list we were at 52%, making us number eight. We hit number nine again on "Top cities for vegetarian lovers," and we just barely made it onto the "Top cities for the non-smoker" list at number ten.
- Despite their close relationship, Richard A. Sprague will be allowed to represent Senator Fumo in his upcoming trial for federal fraud and obstruction of justice, a judge ruled yesterday.
- Britt Reid is now facing new charges as a result of his behavior recently at a Plymouth Township sporting goods store. These include "driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia." Apparently while in the store parking lot, Reid was unable to find his vehicle despite the fact that it was only 15 to 20 feet in front of him, and it also took him three tries to get into the thing once he finally tracked it down.
- As part of a plea deal, a Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the 2005 killing of his girlfriend in an Atlantic City casino hotel room. Apparently they had argued at a restaurant earlier that evening. The man now faces from 10 to 30 years in prison.
- "Students in Philadelphia and its Pennsylvania suburbs scored higher on state tests last school year," but schools in those areas also declined in meeting their targets for progress under the No Child Left Behind law.
- Republicans in the Pennsylvania state Senate and House are planning on making tough illegal immigration legislation a priority when the General Assembly returns to work next month.
