We love when we get the opportunity to see a ton of bands in one shot. We love it even more when a couple of the bands are old favorites of ours and others are bands we've never heard of, because it gives us the chance to check out some new music, and if we don't like what we hear, we can always go back to the stuff we know and be completely satisfied. That's why we're pumped up for tomorrow's Vans Warped Tour at the Tweeter Center.
You see, we have this love/hate thing with punk rock. But we're pretty sure that we're going to love tomorrow's show. If we don't, we suspect it will be because of the 95-degree weather and thousand percent humidity, and not the bands playing. We just can't see ourselves not enjoying a couple of our favorite punk bands of all time: Bad Religion and Alkaline Trio. It also helps that Warped, while primarily featuring punk and ska bands, has a few acts that trend more toward hard rock and metal that we can check out. Plus, there are a number of bands we've either become fans of through their CDs or seen live before and are looking forward to: Pepper, Hawthorne Heights, Coheed and Cambria, and Philly's own The Starting Line, to name just a few.
When a show has as many bands playing as the Warped Tour does, it's basically impossible to provide full coverage, but we're going to do our best. Some other unknown (at least to us) bands we're going to try to catch are The Spill Canvas, Amber Pacific, All Time Low, The Confession, The Vincent Black Shadow, and a couple of bands we've heard of but never actually listened to, like Cute is What We Aim For and Funeral for a Friend. And if we're not diggin' what we hear, at least we know there's Bad Religion to get us through.
Oh, and if you're going, remember that the set list times aren't set until the morning of the show, so get there early to make sure you don't miss anyone you want to see.

ok this is a step in the right direction. while, i cannot image going to the warped tour nor recomend anyone does, i will give you credit for acknowledging bad religion. this in no way makes up for you coverage of silverchair, the counting crows, the decemberists, sufjan stevens, and the like. maybe music isn't what this blog should be writing about. they say to write what you know and phillyist appears to know a great deal about the penn writer's house, grammar, manners, and things of that nature. you are good at what you are good at and no one can take that away so play to your strengths.
Hey guest:
Judging from a little light IP tracing, it looks like you've had a lot to say, about music and otherwise, on Phillyist. If there's music you'd like to see us cover, tell us more about what you'd like to see. Send us tips, write posts of your own on the forum, or even apply to write for us. We can't pay you, but we might be able to swing you free tickets for some of those shows you think we should be covering!
No points awarded for the coverage of the tour (who doesn't love Alkaline and BR, but don't you people have jobs??)
But creepy IP tracing more than makes up for it.
Re: JABI's post:
I was going to post this on the forum, but it threatened to make me log in. It's hard to strike the right tone when writing online, so don't take this the wrong way, but it doesn't make any sense for viewers of the site to tell you what to cover. I mean, I thought one of the very purposes of sites like this one is for the informed to tell the uninformed what's cool. Who is going to write in with "Hey, I really enjoyed the Jay Reatard show. Can you please write about it, even though I already know about it and was there?" Or, "Hey, I just saw The Simpsons movie. I already have formed an opinion on it, but will you write about it anyway?"
Wow, guest 3/4, you are prolific today! You really should log in - we know who you are anyway, through that "creepy IP tracing" (which really just means that our comment archive—viewable only by the editors and the writers of the posts you comment on—lists your IP address next to your comment. It's not like we're stalking you. Hand to god.
Re: jobs: I have one. I've already worked well over forty hours at it this week, so I'll be leaving early to catch Bad Religion. Ross also has a job, but, per his intro yesterday, he doesn't start it until the fall. So he can stay in Camden all weekend if he wants to (but really, who would?).
Per comment #4: a lot of content on Phillyist is generated because our readers tip us off, either anonymously in the tips section, or via email, saying "Hey, thought you'd like to know that such-and-such band is playing next week, and I seem to recall you liking them in the past." Or, for non-A&E-related coverage: "Hey, has anyone else heard about the latest thing that John Street said in City Council?" While Phillyist serves in great part to inform our readers, we don't have a full-time staff (not even close), so sometimes, things slip through the cracks. We want our readers to tell us what we've missed. If we missed it on purpose, or we can't gain press access, we won't post about it. But if we feel it's post-worthy, we'll try to get it up.
Insert my comment about the difficulty in striking the appropriate tone when writing online into comment #3. I do, in fact, believe you have jobs.

Still curious as to what music you think we ought to be covering....
