Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

  • There's a new online video company called My Damn Channel, and although they'll be syndicating their content to YouTube, they are not in fact just another YouTube. This stuff will be professionally made, specifically for this format. TIME has an article about it (via Jill), and so does the AP.
  • Wired has Ten Reasons to Throw Away Your Cellphone, but we're not convinced. Especially since this Phillyist has only one phone to his name, and it's a cellphone.
  • Ah, the emoticon. An essential part of communicating in the online world. The New York Times has an interesting history of emoticons, as well as some tips on when it's inappropriate to use them. (Via)
  • The word on David Tennant's website is that a Doctor Who video game will be coming this Christmas for PC, DS, PS2, and Mobile. Sweet! (Via)
  • Wow. The "leaked" trailer for the upcoming PC action/fantasy game currently entitled Project Offset sure is purty.
  • The bitter sarcasm and hate fairly drips off this Cinematical article announcing the upcoming creation of three Maxim Magazine films, which sound about as juvenile as one might expect.
  • This video includes both an R-rated trailer for, and a scene from, the upcoming vampire flick 30 Days of Night. Both are pretty intense and bloody, so be aware of that if you're watching at work. Oh, and you'll also have to prove your age before you can view the movie by filling out one of those silly forms. (Via)

  • We can't remember if we've posted before the fact that Susan Sarandon has been cast as the grandmother in the film adaptation of The Lovely Bones, but even if we haven't, this article includes a nice run-down of all the known cast members so far.
  • We weren't really a big fan of the original Shinobi (you can read our review here), but we are vaguely intrigued to hear that it's going to be remade by Universal.
  • Cinematical has collected some more tributes to master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. But before the news of his death on Monday had even sunk in, we learned this morning that another great director passed away on the same day - Michelangelo Antonioni (via Sarah). He was 94.
  • There are few things more entertaining than a talk by Kevin Smith, and Cinematical was nice enough to track down an mp3 file recording of the entire talk that he did just recently at Comic-Con. Download it here. (Via)
  • A new trailer for the upcoming Penny Arcade video game, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness - Episode One, can be viewed here.
  • Ouch! Looks like Sony's going to have to fight off yet another lawsuit. Parallel Processing Corporation says the Cell microprocessor infringes upon their 1991 patent, and to make up for it, they want Sony to destroy all their PS3s. Um, wow.
  • You've probably got an old NES sitting around collecting dust somewhere, don't you? We know we do. Well, DIY Life has a list of a whole bunch of cool things you could do with that old console. You know, besides throw it away. (Via)
  • Comic-Con hasn't disappeared off the blogosphere yet (ooh, that felt good; we think we'll say it again: blogosphere). Joystiq has here a round-up of all the video game-related stuff they saw there, complete with a video and a picture gallery. Enjoy!
