Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday
A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

- Wow. Just, wow. You need to check this out. Dude decided to try to visit every Starbucks in Manhattan (that's 171) in one day - and purchase and at least partially consume a product from every one of them! He had to hit a store every seven minutes for 20 consecutive hours, spending $369.14, and the caffeine ended up leaving him dehydrated and confused, but he did it. Click through for more details, and a video. (Via Jill)
- For a truly fascinating and amusing analysis of Michael Bay and his films, click... right... here. (Via Sam)
- Hey, The Daily Show mentioned Philadelphia! It's a harsh joke at our expense, but still! (If you want to skip right to the painfully brutal bit of humor in question, it comes about 1 minute before the end.) (Via Vince)
- We don't think it's an entirely accurate quiz, but you're probably going to want to take The Which Lolcat Are You? Test anyway, if only to see all the great lolcat pictures scattered throughout. (Btw, if you're interested, we r serious cat.) (Via)
- Having only played one of these games, and then only for a few minutes, we really don't have much to say about this list of The 10 Hardest PC Games ever made. But it's still an interesting list. (Via)
- Speaking of lists, Shiny Shiny has picked the top 6 (why six?) geeky slogan T-shirts. And hey, we love us a good geeky slogan T-shirt.
- Sci Fi Wire has an interview with Danny Boyle about his upcoming film Sunshine, and it includes footage from the movie and behind-the-scenes stuff from the production.
- Your Harry Potter update for today: now it seems that not only has the seventh book leaked on the internet, one US online retailer has already started shipping it to customers. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter expert over at Nerd World has a timely post about fighting spoilers.
- Woah! Just a week before Comic-Con, Twentieth Century Fox has announced that it won't be attending after all, and has cancelled its "star- and filmmaker-studded panels, saying clips from its slate of effects-heavy films just aren't ready." Damn. Somebody's definitely getting fired over this.
- Supposedly, "hackers have found an exploit in the Wii's Internet Channel that could eventually pave the way for homebrews." It has something to do with the Flash player embedded in the Wii browser - the one that lets you watch YouTube on your TV.
- A British teenager bought a PS2 and two games from eBay, but when the package arrived in the mail, it was full of money, adding up to 65,400 Euros. The police are trying to figure out if the money is the proceeds from some kind of criminal activity; if it is, it might be seized. If the rightful owner of the cash can be found, it will be returned. Otherwise, the kid and his family might get to keep it.
- Although news about it first came out some time back in 2005, Dark City: The Director's Cut is apparently still not done. Here's hoping it finally gets released soon; we want to see it!
- The Last Legion sounds interesting. It's apparently kind of a prequel to the Arthurian legend about a Roman legionnaire trying to protect the Emperor's children, and somehow the legendary sword Excalibur shows up and becomes part of the story. It stars Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, and Indian superstar Aishwarya Rai, and you can see a sweet new poster right over here.
- Turns out I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry might have ripped off its story from an Australian comedy starring Paul Hogan. Although how more than one group of people could have thought it was a good idea to make such a movie is beyond us.
- Word is that the upcoming 22nd Bond movie might take the franchise into a lighter, more comedic vein - sort of like the flicks during the Roger Moore era. Well... that could work. We enjoy the Moore movies, after all. We'll see how they handle it...
- This upcoming DS game Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck sounds like it might be fun. Similar to the original, classic cartoon of the same name, you end up driving Daffy Duck insane in a series of mini-games. "Daffy even gets upset if you close the DS, initiating a game where you must tap the L or R buttons following Daffy's voice." Early impressions are extremely positivie, and the game is supposed to be out this holiday season.
- Check out the trailer for the documentary The Shark is Still Working, which is about the making, and longevity, of the film Jaws. Sadly, the doc doesn't have a distributor yet, so it won't be available for viewing any time soon, but we'll certainly try to track it down when it does come out, because it looks pretty fun. (Via)
