Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

  • Here's a large, far-reaching list for you: the Top 100 Indie Games of the Past Three Years. You probably won't have heard of any of them, but you might want to check them out. (Via)
  • OK, this is just weird: pitcher Curt Shilling, comic book artist Todd McFarlane, and novelist R.A. Salvatore are joining together to make a fantasy-themed MMO.
  • So, what's the story, is Shia LaBeouf really signed on for three more Indy movies? Lucasfilm says no. And you'd figure they'd know.
  • We have a probable release date for Valkyrie (or, as we like to think of it, Tom Cruise vs. Hitler: The Movie), and it is August 8th, 2008.
  • New pics are online from John Rambo, and they include one of the man in question fishing with a bow and arrow, and another of him getting playful with a snake. Good stuff.
  • We weren't particularly interested in Death Sentence, as it appears to be yet another Death Wish retread, but we have to admit that the poster is pretty cool.
  • We were wondering where XPN could go next with their 885 countdowns, so we were interested to read on the All About the Music Blog their announcement that this year it will be the 885 Most Memorable Musical Moments - which is easily the most abstract and hardest to quantify list concept they're ever come up with. Apparently the moments can be personal or historical, and can be submitted in very many different ways, including via audio or video.
  • It turns out the Ethan Haas websites that folks originally believed were connected to J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield film project are actually connected to an upcoming video game called Alpha Omega. Oh. Okay then.
  • M. Night Shyamalan's latest project, The Happening, which already stars Mark Wahlberg as the main character, has now picked up John Leguizamo as Wahlberg's best friend.
  • Ouch! Joystiq got their hands on Soul Calibur Legends for the Wii, and they hated it. How disappointing! Let's hope they played an early version, or were high at the time.
  • Looks like they're planning on the Shrek movie franchise to have five chapters. Although we bet if the fifth and "final" one does very well, a sixth will become a possibility again.
  • Rotten Tomatoes, in honor of us having reached the mid-point of 2007, has released their lists of the top 25 best reviewed and bottom 10 worst-reviewed films so far. The big winner? That cartoon about the rat chef. Who knew? The big loser, on the other hand, is Because I Said So (which, we'd like to point out, we labeled as Most Likely to Suck the week it was released...). (Via)
  • Is The Simpsons' Apu a racist stereotype? The Guardian wants to know. Our answer: no. The show is full of stereotypes, but only to satirize and deride them. Apu is actually one of the more likable people in Springfield. He's certainly a better man than Homer.

"M. Night Shyamalan's latest project, The Happening, which already stars Mark Wahlberg as the main character, has now picked up John Leguizamo as Wahlberg's best friend."

I've read some basic story line, though none of them are official, it still sounds quite interesting. He's one busy man 'cause not only is he filming this movie next month but he's coming out with a mini-series "The Kill Point" co-starring Donnie Wahlberg. Leguizamo comes out as a bank robber while Wahlberg comes out as the negotiator. It'll be running for 8 episodes & I know this because I work with them! If you haven't seen the previews yet, you should definately check out http://killpoint.spiketv.com.

Neat! Thanks for the info, and the link!

"actually connected to an upcoming video game called Alpha Omega"

Of course, the site you link to for that credits AICN for this discovery, when AICN didn't do any of the work to find this out.

They simply read online about how a bunch of other people (myself included, but hardly limited to me) spent since at least July 7 doing the research to establish this connection.

And then AICN decided to take credit for it.

And then SCI FI Wire agreed to give them credit for it.

AICN is FoS.
