We're just going to get right to the point this week. The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville is hosting its annual showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show this Saturday at 10 PM. Tickets are on sale now, so get your fishnets and your best bustier ready to do the time warp. Again.
As if that were not enough to convince you that the Colonial is a national treasure, consider this: they're also hosting a screening of Barbarella on Sunday at 2 PM. It's a weekend chock full of trashy cult movies on the big screen. What could be better?
Okay, maybe one thing could be better. This Phillyist has a confession to make: she is an absolute sucker for town fairs. Organize some vendors selling deep-fried goodness, a couple of booths with impossible-to-win games and trashy prizes, and some rides of dubious safety, and she's there, probably chowing down on cotton candy. As such, she is obligated to mention that the Honey Brook Fire Company Carnival kicks off this Saturday at 6 PM. (Fair [no pun intended] warning: The Kimberton Fair kicks off July 23 and runs through July 28. We are so there.) The fair will be held on the Honey Brook Fire Company grounds, located just off Route 322 in Honey Brook.
In turn, the Parkesburg Fire Company Fair is winding down this weekend. The fair closes up shop on Saturday. (The fair ends at 10:30 pm on Saturday, and is located in Minch Park in Parkesburg.)
Linvilla Orchards is hosting its Blueberry Fair and Pie-Eating Contest. The event features, according to the website 'Hayrides, pony rides, face painting, children's entertainment, costumed characters, games and contests, music, ice cream sundaes, recipes, Giant Fireworks Cake, blueberry treats, Linvilla Grill and Pick-Your-Own Blueberries.' Phew! Oh, and Cookie Monster, Bear from the Big Blue House and Scully from Monsters, Inc. are all scheduled to make appearances. Blueberries, Cookie Monster and a pie-eating contest? Sign us up. For more information, call 610-876-7116.
Shameless plug alert: The Philadelphia Inquirer has discovered the Chester Springs Creamery, where we have been going to get ice cream for years. It's exactly as tasty as you would think homemade, fresh ice cream would be. We are slightly concerned that the secret is now out. That said, we cannot recommend the ice cream strongly enough, and we urge you to head to Milky Way Farm (where the Creamery is located) in October to pick pumpkins for Halloween. It's the kind of countrified Americana that keeps us living in the suburbs. They have hay rides to the pumpkin patch, people. We are suckers for a good hay ride.
As always, if you know of something happening in your neck of the suburban woods, please let us know.
