What's new and/or interesting on TV this week.
Animal Battlegrounds (Tue, 9:30PM-10PM, Animal Planet) - Are the parts in nature shows where the animals eat each other your favorite bits? Then this show is for you! It seems to look exclusively at such conflicts. This episode focuses on wetland environments, particularly Africa, and features archerfish shooting their prey down out of the trees, and black egrets catching fish by tricking them with shadows.
Globe Trekker (Tue, 10PM-11PM, PBS [WNJS]) - Ooh, it's a tour of England! They'll show us a reenactment of the Battle of Hastings, take a canal ride to the Yorkshire Moors, enjoy a pagan celebration in Glastonbury, and also check out Liverpool, Brighton, and Whitby.
4th of July TV (Wed, 7PM-11PM, 6ABC; 9PM-10PM, NBC10; 8PM-10PM, myTV [WPHL17]) - As one might expect, there's tons of Independence Day events on TV Wednesday night, including the coverage of Philly's celebration (featuring the Hall and Oates concert and the Art Museum fireworks), Manhattan's annual fireworks display (including performances by Joss Stone, various American Idol singers, and the New York Pops), and the Taste of Chicago food festival and Independence Eye fireworks display (which will actually be a tape of events that happened the previous day, but, hey, close enough).
Doctor Who (Fri, 8PM-9:30PM, Sci-Fi) - The third season starts off with an extra-long, 90-minute episode wherein the Doctor encounters a bride who inexplicably turns up on the TARDIS. We're not sure what that's about, but we heard this season is a pretty exciting one (it already aired in the UK), so you might want to jump on at the beginning. Also, it looks like the second episode is going to be aired directly after this one, so stay tuned!
Amusement Park Eats (Sat, 9PM-10PM, Food Network) - An hour-long special taking a look at all the awesome crap you can get to eat at amusement parks across the country. That means cannelloni at Busch Gardens, BBQ at Dollywood, hot dogs at Coney Island, and Mickey Mouse-shaped squash in Disney World.
Next Food Network Star (Sun, 9PM-10PM, Food Network) - This week the remaining four finalists have to cook three dishes in an hour as part of an Iron Chef competition. They'll have surprise sous chefs to help them, and their work will be judged by Bobby Flay, Cat Cora, and Karine Bakhoum.
