Hilarious review! We saw it yesterday and were equally disappointed. My boyfriend was especially bummed that they didn't use the original Transformers theme song.

To the guest commenter: While your comment is not directed at me, my review is also a negative one, so I get the sense you're including me amongst the "'nose in the air' crack-pots." And while I do tend to be a bit of a movie snob at times, I would like to point out that I also watched the Transformers cartoon as a wee lad, collected and played with all the toys, and in fact have a Transformer sitting on my desk right now as I write this. I've been a huge fan since I was a little kid, and I was really excited to see this film. I'm glad that you and your son enjoyed the movie, but I contend that not all fans of Transformers definitely will, and offer myself as living proof. Yes, I also found the special effects to be outstanding, but the movie did not bring back many fond memories for me.

You raise an interesting point about whether Corliss is really qualified to write a review of the movie. While it's definitely interesting to get the point of view of somebody not familiar with the subject at all, it does seem like somebody with a little more knowledge might have been a better choice...

I've read a bad review about Transformers from a
critic on Time.com He admits that at the time this series was running, he was probably watching PBS (yeah right, lets try to look intellectual).
Anyway, it's hard to believe he feels qualified to even write a review of the movie, having never even heard of the Transformers before. These were the cartoons my son watched as a wee lad and we collected and played with all the toys generated from the series. This movie has brought back fond memories for my son and I and the special effects alone are just outstanding. Everyone please go see the movie and try not to be put off by any bad reviews by some "nose in the air", crack-pot that probably sits at home watching the Oxygen channel with his mother at night.(Richard Corliss)
