If you're planning to see Humble Boy at the People's Light and Theater Company, you'll be in for a treat. Not only will you get a show, you'll get the opportunity to contribute to the American Cancer Society while snagging some sweetness for yourself.
When we first got notice of an organization called Hives for Lives we were a little hesitant, since our main experience with hives is with the bumpy, itchy sort. We needn't have worried; adolescent sisters Molly and Carolyn Houlahan come from a long line of beekeepers, and learned how to bottle honey and make lip balm and candles from the beeswax. Three years ago they decided to sell their products to benefit the ACS, after their grandfather succumbed to throat cancer. Fifteen-year-old Molly and 13-year-old Carolyn have raised over $22,000 since then, and show no signs of slowing down.
The girls will be offering their wares during performances of Humble Boy; they contacted the theater after seeing a press release for the play, which featured artwork of a bee alighting on a flower. They thought it might be a good fit, and it certainly seems to be considering the play touches on "love, physics, and the joys of beekeeping." We don't know about the physics part, but Molly and Carolyn seem to have the other two down.
