What's new and/or interesting at Philly theaters this weekend.
Eagle vs. Shark - This film, about the quirky romance between two misfits, was screened at the Philadelphia Film Festival this year; you can read our review right here.

A Mighty Heart - This is the dramatization of Mariane Pearl's memoir about her husband Daniel Pearl, the journalist who was murdered in 2002. Angelina Jolie stars as Mariane, and the film was directed by Michael Winterbottom. We expect it's quite dramatic and moving, and a great choice, if you're up for something serious.

Angel-A - A petty criminal named Andre is in debt to a local gangster and sees no way out, so he gets ready to jump into the river. But when a woman jumps in ahead of him, he saves her, and the two form a bond and determine to get Andre out of trouble. This one sounds pretty interesting, and it's directed by Luc Besson, a favorite filmmaker of ours.

Most Likely to Rule: 1408 - Another film adaptation of a Stephen King story. But before you start yawning, this one actually looks pretty interesting. John Cusack stars as a horror novelist named Mike Enslin who debunks paranormal events as a hobby. Room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel is the next site of weird events on his list, but when he ignores the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson) and goes inside, a series of very strange and horrifying things begin happening to him.

Most Likely to Suck: Evan Almighty - A secondary character in Jim Carrey's Bruce Almighty gets his own movie and his own chance to do the holy work of Morgan Freeman's God. Steve Carell reprises his role as Evan Baxter who, since the events of the first film, has made up with Bruce and been elected as a Congressman. Things seem to be going all right when all of the sudden God shows up and tells Evan he has to build an ark, just like Noah's. We like Steve Carell, and Morgan Freeman, for that matter, but this seems like a weird idea for a comedy, and the reviews are not good. Avoid!
