What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend.
Most Likely to Suck: Even Money - Lot of red flags on this one: it's an ensemble drama (ick), it's a message film (ugh!), AND it's about a seemingly unrelated group of people whose lives all end up intersecting (argh!!). And, indeed, the news from the tomatoes is not good. It may star Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, Kelsey Grammer, Ray Liotta, Forest Whitaker, and Jay Mohr, but it's just a lame movie about how gambling is bad.

Most Likely to Rule: Severance - This British horror comedy was one of our favorite movies from this year's Philadelphia Film Festival. You can read our review right here.

The Treatment - Chris Eigeman plays Jake, a poor, confused, recently single guy who goes into psychoanalysis with an infamous strict Freudian therapist played by Ian Holm. The therapist's unsettling treatments just make Jake more nervous. When Jake meets a beautiful woman, played by Famke Janssen, who needs his help keeping custody of a child, he thinks he may have found his dream, but his therapist is entirely against the relationship, and the woman may just be using him. Believe it or not, this is a comedy! Well, a comedy drama. One that we can't muster much interest for.

Once - We've posted about this one quite a lot. It's the story of a guy and a girl and the beautiful music they make together. It was also in the Philadelphia Film Festival, and you can read our review right here.

Gracie - Based on true events from the lives of the Shue family, which family includes Andrew Shue (who produces and co-stars), Elisabeth Shue (who co-stars), and Davis Guggenheim (the director, and husband to Elisabeth). So yeah, pretty much a family affair. It's the "inspirational film about a teenage girl who overcomes the loss of her brother and fights the odds to achieve her dream of playing competitive soccer at a time when girls' soccer did not exist." Okay, inspirational message film based on the true story of the family that's making the film? That's just got bad idea written all over it.

Knocked Up - Another very uncomfortable-looking relationship comedy from Judd Apatow, the man behind The 40-Year-Old-Virgin. This one's about a one-night stand between two very incompatible people that leads to a pregnancy, and an attempt by the couple to make their relationship into something more meaningful and lasting. That might sound fun to you, but it sure doesn't sound that way to us!

Mr. Brooks - Now this one looks interesting. It's Kevin Costner as a man successful in business and in life, with a wonderful family and the perfect life, who also happens to be an expert serial killer. William Hurt plays his evil alter ego, Demi Moore plays the detective that's after him, and Dane Cook plays a witness who (foolishly, it seems to us) tries to blackmail him. Looks like a very different, very intriguing spin on your typical serial killer flick.
