Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

  • How about some political humor mixed with clips from The Godfather? Our favorite part is at the very end. (Via)
  • Local aspiring filmmakers, be aware that the Big Bang Film Festival (also on MySpace) is calling for entries, and the deadline is approaching! Well, one of the deadlines. The regular deadline is June 1st, which is Friday, but there are "late" and "last chance" deadlines in August. Still, you might want to get to work if you're interested in getting your film in there. For those of us who are lazy and just want to watch the films, we'll have to wait until the festival actually occurs, October 17-21. (Via Editor Jill)
  • Amazon has put together some interesting lists of customer favorite products in various categories (DVD, Music, and Books), and entitled them Sleepers & Keepers. Looking through them is a great way to waste a lot of time and money, so if you've got some of either to spare, enjoy!
  • Good lord, there's going to be a Dirty Dancing video game. If you're like us, you're wondering how the heck you make a video game out of Dirty Dancing. Apparently the way it works is, you play mini-games to earn camp dollars in order to buy memorabilia, cabin furnishings, and coveted dance lessons with Johnny and Penny. So what happens when you beat the game? Penny Arcade has an idea. (They've really been on a roll lately. Did you see this one??)
  • In other weird gaming adaptation news, how about a video game based on a movie that's based on an amusement park ride? Yes, it's a Pirates MMORPG.
  • News came out recently that Christopher Nolan will be filming four sequences of The Dark Knight (including the introduction of the Joker) in IMAX format. Which we guess means when you see it in IMAX, only those scenes will actually fill the screen? Anyway, when you see it in a traditional theater, those scenes will supposedly look more vivid. A sneak peek at the Joker introductory scene, complete with a tiny, blurry picture of the Joker, can be found here.
  • The Download Festival (running June 8-10 at Donington Park in England) is including a pretty unique and awesome act in their programming this year: Guitar Hero II. That's right, average folks can register by email to play Guitar Hero II on stage in front of the screaming crowd, and the best performer each night will win a brand new Epiphone Les Paul. (Via)

  • Ancient enemies Steve Jobs and Bill Gates will share a stage again for the first time in nobody knows how long at The Wall Street Journal's D Conference, which is going down today in Carlsbad, California. They'll be talking about the future of the digital revolution. Here's hoping nobody gets hurt! Although, actually, that would be kind of funny...
  • Michael Madsen says he'll be in Sin City 2, if it ever happens, but it might not now, due to the poor performance of Grindhouse at the box office. Take this with a grain of salt, though; we suspect Madsen is not the most trustworthy source of information. And really, c'mon, Sin City 2 will still make tons of money, regardless of what happened with Grindhouse.
  • We remember hearing a while back about a possible movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Death: The High Cost of Living, and now it sounds like the gears may be moving on that again, as Shia LaBeouf is rumored to have joined the cast, and Guillermo Del Toro is supposedly involved somehow, perhaps as producer.
  • John Woo + ninja = fun! Theoretically, anyway. Woo is directing, producing, and also helping to create the story and characters for an upcoming film called Ninja Gold, which is the "intellectual property" of video game creator Warren Spector.
  • Cinematical has found the official studio synopsis for the new Hulk movie. They give a spoiler warning, but come on, it's just a plot synopsis. Calm down, everybody.
  • Joystiq's got a gallery of pictures of yet another Super Mario cake. Mario and cake, together. What's not to love?
