Weekly Classical Music Agenda

Philly's classical music community seems to be back from its Memorial Day break as well.

Wednesday
Take a walk at lunch. The Holy Trinity Church presents one of its lunchtime Brown Bag Concerts with The Cypress Trio.
Holy Trinity Church (Rittenhouse Square); 12:30 PM; FREE w/ optional donation

Friday
Everyone loves HMS Pinafore, right? Listen to the Savoy's rendition of such popular tunes as "I'm Called Little Buttercup," and "I am the Captain of the Pinafore" amidst the natural beauty of Longwood Gardens. Can't make it out there? They'll be at the Academy of Music in 2 weeks.
Longwood Gardens; 8:30 PM; $25 (Includes admission to the gardens)

Off-the-beaten path is the Rudresh Mahanthappa Quartet's "Codebook", a suite of nine compositions by Mahanthappa. Drawing from jazz, concepts of Indian music, modern classical harmony, mathematics, and cryptography, this work has certainly piqued our interest.
International House Philadelphia (3701 Chestnut Street); 8 PM; $12

Saturday
Young local musicians Randall Scarlata, baritone, Elizabeth Weigle, soprano and Bonnie Wagner, piano join together for a recital of songs written during their lifetimes by American composers. This clever concept will feature works by Argento, Barber, Laitman, and more.
The Curtis Institute (Field Concert Hall); 7:30 PM; FREE
