Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

  • It's a list, and one about Star Wars, even, so there's no way we could not post for you Star Wars: Top 20 Moments. And as it turns out, it's also quite a good list, with some really good selections. The only one we might quarrel with is number 7: Vader gets a new wardrobe. The scene where Anakin finally goes into the Vader suit is marred by the ridiculous dialogue that accompanies it. We'd replace that scene with the wordless sequence earlier in the film in which Anakin and Padme are across the city from each other, pensive and unhappy, and Anakin makes the final, fateful decision to go involve himself in the arrest of Chancellor Palpatine. • Jay Roach of Austin Powers fame has been tapped to direct what Cinematical is describing as a "comedic version of Vertigo," which sounds pretty intriguing to us (given that the original Vertigo is one of our favorite movies ever). The story is about a party animal whose loses his best friend in a fluke accident, then meets a nerd who looks the same, so decides to corrupt and change him into a copy of his lost friend.
  • So what's the deal on that big special box set final edition of Blade Runner that's coming out? Cinematical has your disc-by-disc breakdown of all the content. It seems to include not only the brand new, extra special real director's cut edition, but also every other version of the movie ever, tons of special features, and even an origami unicorn, which is a particularly nice touch, we think.
  • A new, even longer cut of Death Proof has premiered at Cannes, to a mixtures of boos and applause. We are so pissed that we haven't gotten it together to see Grindhouse yet.
  • Sam Neill has just signed on to star, along with Ethan Hawke, in that upcoming vampire plague movie called Daybreakers.
  • Heh. This movie You Kill Me looks pretty good (check out the trailer). It's a comedy thriller that stars Ben Kingsley as an alcoholic hit man whose drinking is getting in the way of his work. It's also got Tea Leoni, Luke Wilson, Dennis Farina, Philip Baker Hall, and Bill Pullman. It has a sort of a Grosse Pointe Blank kind of feel, which is okay with us, because we love Grosse Pointe Blank. (Via)
  • Penny Arcade imagines how Blizzard might have kept the secret about Starcraft 2 so well for so long.

  • John McTiernan's planning to make a comeback by returning to his action movie roots with a movie called Run, which has a 100-page car chase in the script. And here we thought the car chases in most scripts were just described as THEY HAVE A CAR CHASE...
  • Prepare to squee, Gilmore Girls fans: a two-hour TV movie that ties up the loose ends of the show could be on the way.
  • Some bad dialogue, but some kind of cool action/effects, are contained in this new clip/trailer for FF2.
  • Yesterday we linked to some announced tracks from Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s; now we've got some tracks from Guitar Hero III (including such awesome selections as the Stones' "Paint It Black," the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," Weezer's "My Name Is Jonas," Muse's "Knights of Cydonia," and Heart's "Barracuda"), as well as the news that the Gibson Les Paul guitar has been licensed so a wireless controller version can be created.
  • We've all heard the stories about using Nintendo's Wii to lose weight, but now there's a site that helps you get organized with a Wii workout regimen. We may need to make use of this... (Via)
  • Drinks are good; drinks based on Batman, and his friends and enemies, are even better. (Via Slashfood, via Sarah)
  • If you think crocheting is boring stuff for old ladies, you might want to check out Jack Davis and his crocheted penises. Potentially unsafe for work, although, c'mon, it's just yarn. Definitely click the Artist Statement link and check out the FAQ, because hey, you've probably got some Qs of your own. (Via Editor Jill)
