Flying into the Fillmore

andrewbird.jpgTonight is an exciting night. Tonight is the night that Andrew Bird plays at the Fillmore at the TLA. It's so exciting that my brother flew in from Utah to see me him. Though if you haven't gotten your tickets then tough shit; it's sold out. You can always try to see if anyone has an extra; they are selling on South Street. You'll be lucky if you land this hot ticket. Of course, if you can't, you can always head out to one of the many restaurants on South Street (as we told you earlier this week, Eight Days of Eat continues till May 23rd). Better yet - do both!

Andrew Bird is an accomplished musician who is flying high with his latest studio album, released this year, Armchair Apocrypha, which I might add is rad. Bird started his musical career early, at age 4, playing the violin using the Suzuki method. Besides the violin, he also plays the glockenspiel and guitar. Oh yeah, did we mention he is completely-crazy talented when it comes to whistling? Unreal, especially when I can barely get an audible sound out when I whistle.

His concerts have been described as a rare mixture of both spontaneity and precision. “Every night,” Bird notes, “I am rewriting all my songs for the audience.” It's nice to know he has the skills capable to do that. Hopefully Bird will come back to Philadelphia sooner rather than later.
