Pretty much all the news today is about the six arrests made yesterday in an alleged plot to attack Fort Dix. ABCNEWS.com reveals to us that the terrorist attack was to involve Super Mario's pizza. No lie! The father of one of the attackers owns Super Mario's Restaurant near the base, which often makes deliveries there, and consequently has a map of the place "used by pizza delivery men to find their way around the base." The attackers would have pretended to be delivery men. Although the man who owns the restaurant says he loves this country and can't believe his son is involved, the chef at the restaurant has quit because he doesn't want to be associated with terrorists. More on the restaurant part of the story can be found here.
You can also read general articles about the attackers and the video they took of themselves training in the Poconos, as well as how the video, and thus the plot, was discovered by a store clerk. Then there's a timeline of how the whole investigation went down, a discussion of the reaction in town to the arrests, the fear of a backlash on the part of NJ Muslims, the incredibly obvious (to everyone but the suspects, at least) FBI surveillance that was going on, and after all that, an article warning us not to attach too much significance to it all.
But there are other things going on in the area, too. Like the mayoral campaign! Yeah, that's still going on. We've got questions about candidate Nutter's ethics coming from other candidates and strategists, as well as from TV ads by independent organizations. Nutter was also the victim of Fattah's controversial "remind himself that he's an African American" quote at the recent televised debate, and the Inquirer discusses that and other racial issues in the campaign right here. And speaking of that crazy debate, turns out it was even crazier than we thought, as Bob Brady got a death threat on his cell phone right before it began.
