Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

  • If you act quickly, you can download some free art by UK duo Gilbert and George. (Via Mid Atlantic Art News, Via Editor Jill)
  • PopCap is giving it away free - to your Mom! By which we mean, in honor of Mother's Day, they're sending registration codes for Bejeweled Deluxe to new and existing subscribers of their newsletter starting today and running through May 23. The offer must be redeemed before May 30.
  • Gamers do good things, too! Gamers in Wisconsin recently raised over $14,000 for the victim of a drunk driver. And they raised all that money through $1 raffle tickets and 50 cent tickets to play games like Guitar Hero, DDR, and Super Smash Bros. Amazing!
  • Ah, the good old Transportation Security Administration. So efficient! So competent! They'll find that dangerous shampoo you were trying to board the plane with! But apparently they can't find one or more external hard drives that held personal data (like names, bank routing info, and Social Security Numbers) of about 100,000 of their own employees, including Air Marshals. "The TSA is unsure if the drive is simply lost or whether it's fallen into the hands of someone with ill intent." Nice! Good job, guys!
  • Another way you can read us on your Wii: via Google's new Wii-optimized version of their RSS software, Google Reader. (Via)
  • Ethan Hawke has just signed on to star in Daybreakers, a film set in 2017, after vampires have already pretty much taken over the Earth. It deals with an interesting idea that few vampire films take on: what happens when the vampires run out of humans to eat?
  • We already posted the news about Rodriguez maybe directing a live-action Jetsons movie, but here's some news that's maybe even more exciting: he might do a live-action Land of the Lost movie starring Will Ferrell!! Oh man, we'd pay big bucks to see that.
  • Pre-orders for the next and final Harry Potter book are breaking records; Amazon.com says they have more than a million advance orders for the book, and Barnes & Noble got over 500,000, which is more than they've ever had before. Hmm... maybe we should put in our advance order now...
