On the Way to Philly

Think back to May 20, 1997. I was finishing up my sophomore year in high school. I had a crush on a girl named Lauren who kissed me like she was licking an ice cream cone. (Yes, I broke up with her specifically for that reason.) I remember buying my first CD: Abra Moore's Strangest Places. This hot new singer/songwriter was hitting the top of all the charts with her up-beat pop/folk song, "Four Leaf Clover." She was even nominated for a Grammy that year. Not bad for a new artist who was riding on the heals of such giants as Alanis Morrisette and Sarah McLachlan.

Fast forward to May 4, 2007. Ten years later. I'm finishing my Master's degree and married. I also have several thousands CDs but one still sticks out in my collection and that's Abra Moore's Strangest Places. A lot changes in ten years, but Abra Moore is still around and still as strong on her third CD release, On The Way. This new record will be released on June 12, 2007, but I've had the chance to preview it, and once again Moore has created something special. The outcome is beautiful and honest. “Making this record I found the sweet balance,” says Moore. “My life is good and happy. These songs are little snapshots of where I’m at. I tried to capture and present these experiences as honestly as I could. If you just stay honest and true, you’ll connect with the listeners. You become part of their lives. That’s a privilege you can’t take for granted.” She has definitely become a part of my life.

Moore plans to showcase her new songs as well as some of her older songs on Friday night at the Tin Angel. It's been ten years, but Moore's music has passed the test of time.
