Usually, you think of writers as people who write, um, books and stuff. The things they write are meant to be read, not performed. Right?
Well, not according to InterAct Theatre Company, which tonight will be presenting Writing Aloud: Coming to Terms, "an evening of four short fictional stories by area writers read aloud by Philadelphia's best actors," and the latest in InterAct's Writing Aloud series. Tonight's featured works will be:
| "The Haircut" Written by Linda Blaskey Read by Cheryl Williams The story of girl who cuts off her hair in protest of her preacher father's strict ways, and sets off an unplanned chain of defiant and liberating events in her family. | "Dog Whispers" Written by Randall Brown Read by Ames Adamson The story of a marriage in trouble, catalyzed by the husband's insistence on keeping their loveable, but unpredictable dog. At wit's end, the family hires a dog whisperer to help solve the dog's problems, and to set their own priorities straight. | "Tour of Duty" Written by Jennifer Weiner Read by Susan Wilder A mother takes her son to visit colleges and deals with the anxiety of seeing her only child leave home, as well as the impending departure of her husband from both of their lives. | "Make Me Over" Written by Amina Gautier Read by Christina May A young woman who has a chance encounter with the first girl she loved, and is given the chance to say everything she has wanted to say in the intervening years. |
