A Quirky Column about Dog Walking Adventures in the City of Dog-Owning Love
This is a different kind of post today because it's an acual note that I left for an owner for whom I dog- and house-sat for a weekend. It's a basic courtesy for dog walkers to leave notes for owners, even if they walk someone's dog every single day. It's just a way to let them know you were really there. Maybe, even more, it's to offer up those tidbits of information owners would otherwise miss about their "kids."
Of course, writing notes can get a little monotonous. So, every once in a while, I'd shake things up. Here's a sample:
Goth Party
Dear Owner,
All went pretty well this weekend. Beatrix slept longer into the morning than she has in the past, which was nice. Not as much barking at noises in the hall.
Again, like a person, she rested her head on the pillows and solicited a tummy rub.
Surprisingly, she had no problem with all the guests who filed into your apartment Saturday night for my monthly Goth Party. She seemed curious about the tattoo artist who set up his instruments in your office and watched over the group that gathered 'round the Ouija board in your living room.
The party was pretty subdued. You know how those goths are, depressing as all hell. They wanted to douse their hands in red wine and clink glasses to praise the rise of the vampires, but there was no wine to be found on your shelf.
With that, they moved their party to the high priestess' house in Fishtown.
That was fine by me. I've been trying to separate myself from that crowd for months now. And Beatrix was bored by their false personnas.
Hope your travels were eventful.
This note actually got a reaction from the owner who said he laughed. And, sometimes, we dog walkers need that.
