In response to the shootings on the Virginia Tech Campus and the escalating violence on Philadelphia streets, Broad Street Ministries will hold an ecumenical candlelight vigil service tonight at 7 p.m.
“The organizers all care about this issue for various reasons,” said Bill Golderer, the pastor of BSM. “One of us has two kids in college. Another’s nephew was murdered recently. In our minds, these types of violence are all linked together, and we feel like any opportunity to gather as a community to talk about these issues is a good thing.”
The service will also include musical memorials from local Philadelphia artists, and a brief video chronicling the high number of shootings in Philadelphia this year.
Golderer says that he welcomes people of all ideologies, political beliefs and faiths to attend.
Broad Street Ministry is located at 315 S. Broad Street. The service begins tonight at 7 p.m.
