To Do, Tonight: Rodrigo y Gabriela

After much ado about identical names and denied visas and Office of Homeland Security red tape, Rodrigo y Gabriela will finally grace the stage at the Electric Factory tonight. We've been waiting for this one for a long time. Be prepared for a flurry of fast-paced fingerwork, fascinating original songs, and classic covers such as Led Zep's "Stairway to Heaven." Rodrigo y Gabriela are so unique that someone had to coin the phrase "acoustic metal guitar duo" to describe their sound.

We think that's too wordy and have described them to friends as musical magical realism. Listening to it, we've felt their music transport us to a place that's half real, half alternate reality. Such fantastic elements exist in their music that we have to keep reminding ourselves that those layers of sound and emotion are being created by only two sets of hands.
