Yo, Philly in the News

  • By now we're sure you've all heard about the terrible mass murder at Virginia Tech. Here's the Inquirer's article on the subject, and here's DCist's.
  • The consensus on our recent storm? It could have been worse! The flooding wasn't as bad as feared.
  • A Mount Airy firefighter who happens to also be a rapper said he wanted to "turn pigs into bacon bits" in one of his songs. The Fraternal Order of Police asked him to apologize, and since he didn't immediately do so, they're now demanding that the man be fired.
  • A carjacker was shot and killed by a University of Pennsylvania police officer yesterday when the man tried to take the officer's gun.
  • The mayoral candidates are getting pissy. During a mayoral forum yesterday, Tom Knox criticized Chaka Fattah's plan to lease the airport to private investors, so Fattah bet him $1 million that he could do it. Knox declined to accept the bet.
  • We posted recently about that missing Chester County mother and her girl; well, there's now an Amber Alert out for the girl, and the woman is wanted "for interfering with custody and concealing the girl's whereabouts."
  • If you care, the Inquirer has the latest legal maneuvering in the endless Mumia case.
  • The latest on Corzine: he's doing remarkably well, but is not out of the woods yet.

don't forget, today is free cone day at Ben and Jerry's!

The three places I know of are Rittenhouse, university City and 30th St station

Justin, don't take this the wrong way, but I think I might be falling in love with you. THANK YOU for the reminder. You have given my day meaning.
