First Friday Fun

Flame-72.jpgYou know, for something that happens but once a month, First Friday always seems to just sneak up on us. It is, in fact, that time yet again, and we're psyched about some of this month's Old City goings-on.

Sometimes, it's the everyday items that can appear the most interesting in art, which is why the latest exhibit at Artists' House appeals to us—specifically the oil paintings by Adam Vinson. Also featured is Mustafa Lamaj's beautifully geometric portraiture, Daniel Miller's wood-carved portraits of famous people, and Timothy Clayton's still life and landscape paintings. Artists' House is located at 57 North 2nd Street.

Daily Candy tipped us off yesterday that Vagabond, quite possibly our fave place in Old City to go broke, is re-opening in their expanded space (former roomie Honeymilk departed a few months ago for its own space), now with even more knitting supplies, and, we hope, fab vintage clothes and jewelry. Plus, they're a great place to see young, up-and-coming designers from the Philly area before they explode on the scene—and get really expensive! Vagabond Boutique is located at 37 North 3rd Street.

Phillyist loves us some ambient light, which is why we're so excited to check out the Materialise, MGX exhibition, “Timeless Design: A Marriage of New Technology and Classic Modernism,” upstairs at the Wexler Gallery. Oh, and the downstairs exhibit, “Man Made: In the Natural World” (with works by Tanja Softic, Ron Fleming, George Peterson, Thierry Martenon, Louise Hibbert, and Michael Shuler) looks pretty sweet, too. The Wexler Gallery is located at 201 North 3rd Street.
