Girls Rock Philly is part of a foundation that works to run summer camps for local girls, ages ten through eighteen, in which they get the opportunity to "make their own band." In the process, they do musical training, while also honing their song writing skills and learning how to design band merchandise. Girls Rock Camp began in Portland, Oregon, in 2000, and this year will be its first summer in Philly.
In an effort to raise funding for this program, Girls Rock Philly is holding its second fundraising event tonight at F.U.E.L.. This First Friday event will begin at 6PM, and feature live performances by Rarebirds, Amy Pickard, Allison Polans & Friends, and Monarch. DJs Dana Bitetti and Jill Carius will also provide entertainment. Their excellent array of prizes ranges from VIP tickets to a taping of The Colbert Report to tickets to The Police's sold-out concert at Citizens Bank Park, and will also include a variety of gift certificates to local businesses. So, head over, bid on some great stuff, and support the rocking efforts of young Philly girls!
