Proofreading Philly tries to capture typos, wordos, and all other kinds of grammatical mistakes that we see around the city. But we need your help! Email photos to us from your computer or your phone, and show the city that you care about good grammar.
We snapped this photo a few days ago while at the Copabanana on 4th and South Streets with our camera phone. It's a little blurry from the glare off the menu and the bad lighting, so we'll transcribe the error for you:

Served in it's own shaker with a pour and a half...
We're not going to point out the lack of capital letters in the heading, because that was a consistent stylistic decision throughout the menu. We are, however, going to point out that "it's" is a contraction for "it is." It may be presumptuous of us, but we're guessing that the Copa was actually going for the possessive pronoun "its."
It's one of the first lessons in fourth grade language arts, guys...

Yikes, how embarrassing! I was typing full speed and must have hit the "u" and "i" keys together—sometimes they stick on my laptop, and whichever one goes down first is the one that shows up. The error is fixed. Thanks for being such a good watchdog!
The it's and its are the bane of your existence.
It's a wonder you don't succumb to its evil.
This one bothers me as well, but if you're going to point out every misuse of its and it's (and non-possessives with apostrophes, etc.), you're going to lose your mind and bore us to tears. The good fight was lost years ago.
Oh, believe me—I don't point out every misuse. Only the ones in which people should really know better. When you run one of the busiest bar/restaurants on South Street, and it's part of a city-wide chain, you should really have someone proofread your menu!

I actually can spell, and quite well. What you saw was a typo—the "u" and "i" keys are right next to each other. So there's really no need for name calling.
