We keep forgetting to post about this article from the Washington Post that Phillyist writer Sydney de Lapeyrouse sent us a little while ago about Philly's BYO "revolution."
We hesitate to call it a revolution, really—we've been BYOing for at least five years, since we first moved to Philly—but whatever they want to call it down in D.C., we do have to admit that our BYO culture really is unique to the City of Brotherly Love. We love us a bottle of good wine, but sometimes—okay, often—it's a little overpriced at local eateries that have liquor licenses, so we end up going without our pinot grigio/cabernet sauvignon/etc. in order to afford dessert. And so when we make dinner plans with our friends, we'll often choose a little hole-in-the-wall where we can bring a few bottles of our own. The food tends to be more affordable (and often, dare we say, better), and we can drink as much or as little as we like without doing too much damage on our wallets.
We've discovered a whole slew of BYOs in Philly that we love, all of which can be found on that BYO map we told you about back in November: Banana Leaf (great for a quick meal before a show next door at the Troc!), Pico de Gallo (for when we want decor that makes us feel like we're back home), Mandoline (which won our hearts when we went a few years ago during Passover, and were served warm matzoh when we mentioned we couldn't eat the bread they'd brought us), Rx (when we miss our old neighborhood), Gnocchi (for, well, the gnocchi), and, above all, La Viola (the veal there makes us want to cry—and not out of politically correct sympathy, either).
But what we want to know, readers, is where you like to take a bottle of wine when you're feeling like part of the revolution. Leave us a comment and let us know what your favorite BYO in the city is!

I love Chabba Thai in Manayunk-they have outstanding service and incredible curries. Zento (for sushi) in Old City is amazing as well.
just moved from center city to fairmount...check out L'Oca in Fairmount. Great food, small place, reminded me a lot of Mellangranos(sp?)
