Whiz of the Web: Wednesday Whiz-Up

The best of the internet, squirted out in flavorful neon globules, just for you.

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (and the lesser known National Association of Recording Merchandisers) have put together a list of the 200 definitive albums that everyone must own - so we assume they want you to go out and buy the ones you don't have right now, please! Amazon is making the process easier by listing them all on their website with handy buying links. Most of these are the usual suspects, although some surprising ones show up here and there. • What do you call the sequel to 28 Days Later? 28 Weeks Later, of course! Here's a look at some rough footage from the trailer; you'll have to go see The Hills Have Eyes 2 in the theaters (opening March 23) to catch the full trailer, apparently. Or you could just wait a few days for it to show up on the internet, which sounds a lot more palatable to us. Anyway, there's not much to see here, but we like the music. (Via)
  • Peter O'Toole will be providing the voice of food critic Anton Ego in Brad Bird's much-anticipated upcoming animated film, Ratatouille.
  • Two bits of bad news: Johnny Depp's 7-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, was admitted into a London hospital earlier this month with an undisclosed illness, and is in serious condition. Depp is taking time off to care for her, and as a result, the production of his latest film, Sweeney Todd, may have to be halted indefinitely.
  • Wow, this sounds fantastic: Midnight Meat Train, an upcoming film based on a Clive Barker story, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus), and starring the awesome giant named Vinnie Jones, as well as Brooke Shields, Bradley Cooper (Alias), and Leslie Bib (Wristcutters). We're sold right there, but the story sounds good, too: Vinnie plays a serial killer stalking the subways, and Cooper plays a struggling photographer who thinks he can hit it big if he can get a shot of "the subway butcher" and thus help capture him.
  • Michael Eisner is launching a virtual studio called Vuguru, which will focus primarily on creating original programming online for distribution on portable media devices (read: your iPod). Vuguru's first project is a mystery called Prom Queen which will consist of 80 episodes of 90 seconds each. Apparently it's "love, gossip, and betrayal" during the last two weeks of high school. Okay, that project doesn't sound that great, but as a concept, Vuguru is very interesting.
  • Wong Kar Wai is going to make a movie (in Chinese) about lesbian love at a high school. It will probably be lengthy, slow, and tragic. And totally hot.

More after the jump...

Left For Dead is the follow-up to Mean Guns? That's so awesome! I love Mean Guns!

Ever seen it, Jim?

Never heard of it, although now I'm definitely intrigued.
