Yes, It Really Made Us Feel Nice

capitol.jpgSometimes it's nice not to have any expectations. That way a kiss on the cheek or a punch in the gut takes you by surprise and you experience it more fully. We're happy to report that on Saturday night at Johnny Brenda's, two bands left us totally winded.

Nethers is a band from Washington, D.C. featuring a girl singer who kicks ass. In skinny jeans and a fitted plaid shirt, her look was
understated, but her voice was anything but. Her melodic voice over the band's chill rock was just what the doctor ordered. We totally dug "O the Deed," which made us think of a slowed down version of "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp."

Next up were The Capitol Years. We have a crappy memory so we jot notes into our PDA during shows. The band must've really gotten to us because later we read, "This band totally gets you. It's what you want to listen to when you're living your life." Either that was the Woodchuck talking or we fell a little bit in love that night. It felt like the band was on the cusp of something big. We're betting that in months someone from Grey's Anatomy will be calling these guys for Meredith's next "what's it all about" scene.

Kicking off the night were El Dorado, who performed amiable indie music to which we were totally indifferent. The Boggs closed the show. We dug their music, but the cider was calling and we had to stay good enough to drive. Music or no music, what's the sense of being in a bar if we can't drink?
