Like Katie, I've been spending too much time at Ten Stone lately. On Friday night, we decided we really needed a change and so, at the recommendation of one of L2's fabulous bartenders, Katie and I, along with another Phillyist staffer, headed a block in the opposite direction toward Grace Tavern.
It was a great recommendation: exactly our kind of scene. Small and crowded with good music and what seemed to be "our kind of crowd."
But this is a food column, not a bar column, so I'll put the atmosphere aside and turn to the important issue at hand: the food. At the suggestion of the L2 bartender, we got burgers. And instead of fries: the blackened cajun green beans. With a spicy remoulade sauce. They were amazing—especially considering that, by the time our food arrived, I was well on my way past tipsy, and food always tastes better with alcohol. Even if it's crap. These green beans, however? Decidedly not crap. I highly recommend them, even if you're sober.
Oh, and the burgers? They were pretty good, too. Cooked just how we ordered them: a good size (I couldn't finish mine) with plenty of bacon and cheese. But when I go back to Grace, I'm going back for the atmosphere and the green beans. The burgers are just an added bonus.
Happiest. Green beans. Ever. Via

I live right around the corner from Grace Tavern and I end up grabbing a drink there or eating a bite there quite a lot. You're dead on about the greenbeans, but I'd also recommend their chicken sausages, and the beer selection is amazing. I'm a big fan of the hyper-alcoholified sour ale, or the very peachy golden nectar they have on tap right now.
Grace Tavern is TERRRRIFIC! And the bartenders and cooks are the nicest people. The fries are wicked too. and they always have nodding head beers on tap (one of grace's owners is part of the monk's/nodding head/fergies family of bars, I think). Cheers bro.
As the no-longer-anonymous staffer mentioned above, I wholeheartedly agree that the beans were awesome and Jill was drunk. And thanks to the stiff gin and tonic at L2, so was I. Good times all around!
