What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend.
Breaking and Entering - Oh no! Another movie about three people whose lives intersect! Still, this one does sound rather intriguing, as it features Jude Law as a landscape architect who decides to start investigating the repeated thefts at his state-of-the-art offices in inner-city King's Cross (a seedy area of town he's trying to help rejuvenate), and ends up stumbling outside the confines of his familiar world. If you want to know the entire rest of the story, you can watch the super-spoiling trailer. His wife is played by Robin Wright Penn, Juliette Binoche also stars, and the film is directed by Anthony Minghella. Its pretentious claim to be "a story about theft, both criminal and emotional" is a bit off-putting, but it could be good.

Most Likely to Rule: Mysteries of Egypt - Gear up for the Tut exhibit with this IMAX movie from 1998 featuring narration by Omar Sharif. Don't worry, there's plenty of aerial footage of the pyramids and the Nile, to deliver on the classic IMAX I-think-I'm-about-to-throw-up experience. (Btw, when a nine-year-old, hour-long IMAX movie that's essentially about looking at scenery gets the Most Likely to Rule designation, you know it's a bad weekend for movies!)

Factory Girl - The controversial film about the life of Edie Sedgwick, which comes complete with Bob Dylan's official stamp of disapproval! Sedgwick was a rich young waif who left school in 1965 to go hang out in New York, and ended up becoming a famous socialite and the supposed muse of Andy Warhol. Later they had a falling out and she died at 28 of a drug overdose. Sedgwick is played here by Sienna Miller, and Warhol (oddly enough) by Guy Pearce. The film also stars Darth Vader Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon (?!), Edward Herrman, and Mena Suvari. There's also an uncredited cameo by Sally Kirkland, and characters listed in the cast as Gay Cowboy #1 and Gay Cowboy #2, but despite all of this interesting stuff, it is apparently not entertaining at all. Ah, well.

Hannibal Rising - A stupid title, boring ads, and a series that has gotten seriously tired. Could we care less about this movie? Don't think so. Still, if for some reason you do care, it's a prequel (yawn) exploring the origin story of everybody's favorite cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Disappointingly enough, they seem to be explaining away his craziness with the old traumatic childhood excuse. Sigh. The movie stars Gong Li as a mysterious Japanese widow.

Most Likely to Suck: Norbit - Wow, if you thought we didn't care about Hannibal Rising, wait till you hear how we feel about Norbit! Let's put it this way: the entire staff of Phillyist had the opportunity to see this movie for free, but none of us did. Also, this Phillyist had the movie picked as our Most Likely to Suck as soon as we saw the first ad for it weeks ago. That pretty much says it all, but if you need to know more, this is another movie where Eddie Murphy plays multiple characters: one a pathetic loser, and another the horrible giant fat woman he's bullied into marrying. When he meets the woman of his dreams (played by Thandie Newton), he finally has to find a backbone. Expect lots of jokes involving farts and people falling down. You'd have to pay us to see this.
