Is it First Friday again already? We had so much fun at the last one that we're not sure what time we finally got home. We do remember drinking plenty of wine and eating plenty of cheese. We even remember making some impulse purchases. Oh, and fawning over an artist that we've always admired, thereby probably frightening her a good deal. This month, we're going to try schmoozing first, drinking later, and see how that works out for us. Spots you might find us:
Pinot: Pinot was the last stop we made last First Friday before going in search of high-carb, alcohol-absorbing food, but we're sure glad we made it in. Phillyist loves us some wine, and, by extension, some wine paraphernalia, and this seems like the place to get it. They don't sell wine there, but last First Friday, they sure had some good stuff toward the back of the store, right next to the yummy cheese platter. This month, Pinot will be celebrating First Friday with glasses of Gluehwein, a Tyrolean spiced wine. Can you say "yummy"? Plus, who doesn't love a live jazz band while sampling a few kinds of high-quality vino? Pinot is located on Market Street, between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
Hot Soup Glass Studio: If you've never seen glass blowing live, you should definitely make sure to hit Hot Soup tonight for live glass blowing and torchworking demos from 6PM-10PM. They'll also be celebrating the opening of their February installation, entitled "Vanity" - works that coincide very nicely with Valentine's Day, sculpted in glass by local artists. Hot Soup is located at 26 S. Strawberry Street, between Market and Chestnut Streets, and between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
Projects Gallery: The average American generates nearly 1500 pounds of garbage per year. A few intrepid artists, including Margery Amdur, Jim Brossy, Tom Judd, Ron Klein, Alex Queral, and Paul Santoleri, among others, have taken some of that garbage and made art with it. We're taking a few guesses at what stayed at the landfill. Projects Gallery is located at 629 N. 2nd Street, just above Spring Garden Street.
