Awesome! I'm surrounded by Mars Volta fans, and I had no idea. Thanks for the review, Pencopal. And Brion, yes indeed, The Roots also rock. Has anybody listened to Jedi Mind Trick? I love those guys. Joe, that idea sounds great.

Great post! I recently met with some other Philly musicians who have the rousing idea to unite the local punk/rock and hip hop/spoken word scenes, rent out some bigger venues (A/K/A the Troc) and thus introduce sonic bigots of all colors and creeds to the possibility that music may just transcend the convenient labels the industry is constantly reinforcing. PS I worship the Mars Volta.

Count me in on The Mars Volta list. Love The Roots as well. Not surprised, but I thought that the stereotyping of musical interests was mainly done by the morons who run the quickly fading music industry.

I think it's a prequel! From Deloused to Frances the Mute, there's a logical progression. When you listen to Amputechture it's like, huh? It's softer, doesn't quite fit. But if you listen to Amputechture, then Deloused, then Frances, it makes complete sense.

Lol. Love this post. Btw, have I finally found a fellow Mars Volta fan?! I was beginning to think I was the only one. I haven't picked up Amputechture yet, but I heard it's a departure from their usual sound. What are your thoughts on it?
