As we predicted, it was a packed house at last night’s Incubus concert at the Electric Factory. And it the crowd was a weird mix, too – a lot of people who think Incubus is just the best band ever (we’re going to guess that these folks also rocked out to Creed back in the day and maybe today, too), fans of Albert Hammond, Jr.’s more mellow music, and a lot of drunk teenagers.
Hammond played a solid set even if the crowd wasn’t too into it, which is a shame, because his stuff is groovy – a little bit of surfer-y goodness a la the Beach Boys, Rooney, and more recently, Jim Noir. His next album, Yours to Keep, is already out in Europe (and he even handed out copies after his last Philadelphia show at the Khyber, which is where we got it) and is set to hit stores in the U.S. in March. It'll be a fab spring and summer soundtrack -- or something to hold you over through the cold if you're willing to pay international shipping.
That’s not to say Incubus played a bad show. They did what they’re known to do, and why people were willing to pay so much for scalped tickets: play loud songs with lots of light effects. But here’s hoping that Hammond will headline his own tour when the album comes out. And that a lot less teenagers will be passed out in the bathroom (remember, kids, if you pound too many beers in the parking lot, you’re not going to see the show, and what fun is that?).
