The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.
- Got an awful, terrible idea for a movie that no person in their right mind would ever purchase? Here are the secrets to selling it anyway! Wait...what have we done?! (Via)
- What doesn't the iPhone do? Turns out, there's nothing it can't not not do! Uh...wait... (Via)
- Did you recently add season 2 of the new "Doctor Who" show to your Netflix queue, only to see it suddenly drop down to the "Saved" section? Yeah, there's a reason that happened, but it's not the one you might think. Apparently, "due to a manufacturing problem" (read: disgruntled employees), about halfway through the first episode on the first DVD, the show suddenly turns into a clip from Texas Chainsaw Massacre of someone getting their limbs hacked off. No word on whether the footage is from the original or the remake. The special features section is also inaccessible. Oddly enough, these problem only show up on the Netflix version of the disc; the BBC says they're going to fix it as soon as possible. (Via)
- Turns out the rumors of Katie Holmes not appearing in the next Batman movie are blessedly true (woo hoo!), though oddly enough, she wasn't fired - she quit. She turned down the offer to reprise the role. The studio's looking for a replacement now.
- Stop-motion video game recreations using tea lights. Brilliant! (Via)
- Dude, John Rogers wrote a comic that features Einstein and Feynman vs. Ninjas. We just might have to track that down and purchase it.
- We know, we know. Another film adaptation of a Stephen King story. Booring! But this one actually looks pretty clever and surreal. It's called 1408, and it involves John Cusack as an author who likes to debunk claims of supernatural occurrences staying in a haunted room at Samuel L. Jackson's hotel. (Via)
More after the jump...
- Sundance is over, and Cinematical has the round-up of winners, as well as the festival in numbers.
- Supposedly our own M. Night Shyamalan is having a hard time selling his latest script, which is reportedly called Green Planet and is something about aliens invading and nature attacking us for being bad. That sounds pretty awful, Shyamalan's last couple movies have been pretty disappointing, and he did just get a lot of Razzie nominations, so we wouldn't be totally surprised if this story were true. Still, we hope the guy gets back on his feet one of these days. We just saw part of Sixth Sense again and were reminded what a truly excellent movie that is.
- Even more casting news on Rob Zombie's Halloween. We've never heard of the people he's got playing the women characters, but we're glad to hear one of our favorite character actors, Udo Kier, is going to play the head of the sanitarium.
- Sam Raimi is interested in directing The Hobbit. Ooh...we don't know about that. But maybe it could work...
- We kind of liked the first two movies, but we're with The Movie Blog on this: Rush Hour 3 looks awful - based on the trailer, at least.
- Seven possible endings to the Harry Potter series that you wouldn't have seen coming, if they hadn't been posted on the internet.
- As he does ever year, MB at dy has posted his handy dandy "Make-Yer-Own Oscar Pool Page," for those in a betting state of mind about the upcoming awards ceremony.
