Phillyist has always loved us some Philly Car Share. Easily accessible rental cars at a reasonable price that you can reserve on short notice? Yes, please! But today, as Phillyist went hunting through the wilds of the World Wide Web for Philly-based hip hop acts, we discovered a new reason to love them: Philly Sound Clash.
Now, promotions for Philly Sound Clash didn’t exactly start yesterday, and this event is not just a search for local hip hop talent. What it actually is is a forum for Philly-based bands of all genres to share two songs with the public, which listeners can listen to and then vote for their favorite. Based on feedback, a panel of judges will pick twelve songs to put onto a compilation CD (which will be sold around town), and six bands will be selected to perform in a battle at the World Café Live on February 22nd.
So, go check out the site and vote (you’re going to have to create a login on Hot Kangaroo Pie to do that). We can’t promise all the bands are good, but we’re pretty certain you’ll find something you like. We did: JAWNZAP7, whose MySpace page Phillyist is currently refusing to close, so that we can keep “Love You” on repeat (that’s also one of the songs you can listen to through the Philly Sound Clash artist page, but it’s called “Rubber Teeth and Wax Lips” on there – which is actually the name of album he’ll be dropping soon).
