To all the knitters out there:
It's not yet time for spring cleaning, but consider a mid-winter de-stash for a good cause: the women at Interim House, a 6-month drug and alcohol addiction treatment center located in Mt. Airy, are in need of your donated yarn, needles, and notions. Kathryn Duffy started a knitting group at the center 3 years ago, and finds the process of knitting to be helpful in the recovery from addiction. As anyone who picks up the needles after a tough day knows, working the yarn can be meditative, and certainly can take one's mind off of the surrounding world. These qualities make it an ideal practice for women who certainly have a lot on their minds and could use the distraction.
Kathy says their stash is running low (as she says, keeping 25 women in yarn and needles is quite a feat), and they can use whatever you've got to offer. Their blog showcases the many beautiful projects being worked on, and really conveys the energy and pride of a knit well done. If you have some supplies to share, drop Kathy a line or give a call to Interim House at 215-849-4606; she'll coordinate drop-off with you and answer any questions about the program you may have. You can also stick the stuff in the mail and send to the house; please address to Kathryn Duffy c/o Interim House.
