Yeah, how could censorship issues be relevant to a blogging site?! I don't get it either?! BTW,
there were some old ladies recently protesting the 'chairman' in Chinatownn this past weekend.
Way to go Ah-ma!

http://search.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/results.pl?scope=all&edition=i&q=web+censorship&go.x=0&go.y=0&go=go

i just saw a podcast on this issue at the above link. it is about a young chinese dude with a hip webcast. he has gotten away with making fun of every issue from corruption to a failing education system in china. also it describes a system called "freenet" which is being developed to make it near impossible to censor and identify users. sounds hopeful! it will be more than interesting to see how the chinese gov will deal with a massive number of internet loving young people and systems like freenet that will protect their anonymity. (btw. what is all the controversy about? blogger dude, beware the phillyist secret police. recant this moment of infidelity. quickly confess your devotion to the eagles and cheesesteaks.) peace and love to ya. fyi, rocky is #1 in the uk right now! o yeah!

Phil, thanks for the update and for your comments. I couldn't find anything past 2005 and the last article I found stated that it was to be shut down. Though the site you reffered mentions that it is currently running, the site seems as though it could be outdated. Could you point me to a recent article on the subject? Much appreciated.

Hi folks,

I was reading the nice comment about NTDTV and the Spectacular. NTDTV won the battle with Eutelstat. :) NTDTV's signal broadcasts throughtout Asia and China, enabling all who have a satellite dish (there are at least 40 million in China) to see uncensored news and true cultural programming. The network also now carries some English programming. For more info:
www.ntdtv.com

thanks!

Miamist wasn't put on hiatus because it wasn't local. Miamist was put on hiatus because it wasn't active. Thanks for your kind words, though. We really appreciate your positive attitude.

Phillyist is pretty useless for local news, compared to the other -ists. Maybe it's time for Jake to do a Miamist (Miamiist?) and pull the plug on it.

LAist also had a problem with one of the contributors trying to turn it into his own personal blog/soapbox over Christmas. That thankfully died down.

i don't know what you guys are talking about. This is a very important post about blogger freedom and LIBERTY. ARE WE NOT AMERICANS?

Why is this brave man who is posting about SAVING LIVES being bashed? Oh, because he didn't say I love cheesesteaks! in the post? Shame on you people. This is why I hate LIEberals--only concerned about themselves and not stopping terrorism.

So....I thought this was the Phillyist, not the Chinaist. Maybe you should do some investigation and see if Beijing would be interested in an IST site.

Stop crying. I was writing an add-on before you dropped by.
And speaking of trying to be clever- try typing with two hands. What the hell was that last paragraph?

Is phillyist ever going to write about Philly? Ever?

Building going up everywhere , what maybe two of the only real alt papers left. A burgeoning music scene, a really good academic town, amazing food, interesting and convoluted politics, spoken word artists out the rear, and......

Little to NONE of it shows up here . Unless it's filtered through facebook, myspace,or listservs first.

Wanna write for the economist go do it, but if I read one article here that doesn't slag on Philly or revolve on how ever so clever someone writing it believes themself to be and how quickly they prove otherwise. I'll laugh my fat , no style having, must be a creating cause I LIKE this city ASS OFF
