Noms Out!

oscar01-23-07.jpgYou probably heard by now that some important nominations got announced this morning: the Razzies! We like that they nominated Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff together, as one entity, for Worst Actress in Material Girls. We're kind of sad that Kristanna Loken got nominated in that category, too, though, because we went to her movie premiere party in Philly and interviewed her and took a picture of her and everything. Lady in the Water, which we reviewed and didn't think was really all that bad, also got plenty of nominations, as did The Wicker Man, another review recipient of ours.

However, although we are acquainted with a number of the Razzie nominees, we saw very few of the nominees for those other awards - what are they called? - Oh, yeah, the Oscars. We don't want to know what that says about our taste. We did try really hard to see Letters from Iwo Jima, it just wasn't meant to be. And we did nominate a number of these movies for Most Likely to Rule in our CinePhillyist column, and that should count for something. Anyway, we are glad to see that Philly's own Will Smith got nominated for Best Actor, even if it is for that movie where they spelled one of the words wrong in the title. And we did see one of the movies nominated for Best Cinematography: The Illusionist, which is facing off in that category against the other period magician thriller released in 2006, The Prestige. And there's Flags of Our Fathers down in the Best Sound Editing category - always a hotly contested award! - and Superman Returns for Best Visual Effects...

Man, we really need to get out to some more movies this year. Maybe we can make that one of our late New Year's resolutions...
