Foodsday Tuesday: It's Cookie Time!

cookietime_beverly_hills.jpegGirl Scout Cookie selling sure has changed since Phillyist was in the Girl Scouts (Brownies, actually) back in the day. Used to be that you'd get all of your cookie-selling paraphernalia, wait and wait until the official start day, get up as early as your parents would let you harass the neighbors, and try to beat all of the other neighborhood scouts to the houses where you knew they were going to buy more than just one box of Thin Mints. You didn't carry cookies around with you; those came a month or so later, when you'd sit on the floor of your living room with your mother while she bundled all of your neighbors' orders together. If you sold enough cookies, you'd get a t-shirt, or even a little pewter figurine of whatever the animal of the year was. There was no instant gratification when it came to cookie sales. You waited to sell, you waited to deliver, and you waited to be rewarded. It was so... cruel.

No longer. Now, it's hard to shake your fist without hitting a table full of scouts—or, more realistically, scout moms—selling instant gratification Thin Mints, Trefoils, Samoas, and other adorably-named, and FDA-certified, trans fat-free, cookies. We hear they're already out, even though they shouldn't be: official Cookie Sale launch date is this Thursday, January 25. And to celebrate, the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania are holding their Cookie Sale Kick-Off at Liberty Place. (Sorry, we don't have a time, but our guess is if you show up at Liberty Place around lunchtime, you'll be witnessing some serious cookie madness!)

The Cookie Sale will continue through February 28th. After the jump, please see the full press release from the GSSP, including info about the Girl Scouts, what cookie varieties are available this year, and where you can find them if you don't have a Girl Scout in your neighborhood.

About Girl Scouts
Since 1912, Girl Scouts has been the preeminent place for girls to develop into strong women. When Juliette Gordon Low founded the program she wanted to create a place where girls would be given the opportunity to grow and move beyond their isolated home environments and into community service. Today’s Girl Scouts maintain Juliette Low’s sense of adventure, albeit in a very modern way. While times have changed, Girl Scouts is still the preeminent place for young women to develop into leaders in their homes, their communities, and their worlds. Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania is one of over 300 Girl Scout Councils in the United States. In Girl Scouts, girls participate in fun, educational activities that encourage them to discover, lead, and take action in today’s ever changing world. Serving eastern Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties, the council serves more than 21,000 adult and girl members. For more information, call Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania at 866/215-564-2030, ext. 226 or log on to the GSSP web site at www.gssp.org.
