Does anybody recognize this particular photograph of the Golden Gate Bridge? I found it on Flickr under a Creative Commons license, but it looks almost identical to one of the opening scenes of "Full House."
Now, at one point or another, we all came across this family-oriented show that launched the careers of the Olsen twins and the hair style of John Stamos. Bob Saget played a kind and gentle, if not occasionally effeminate, father of three.
Then there was "America's Funniest Home Videos," which was never very watchable but became even less so upon Saget's departure (who else really knew how a dog would sound if it could talk as it ran in terror from an oncoming ocean wave?).
Then, finally, there was Bob Saget Live, which I caught on January 19th at the Tower Theater.
Make no mistake, this is a very dirty man. Yes, there were Olsen twin jokes and plenty of digs on his former co-stars, but no one bore more of the brunt than Kimmy Gibler. The quintessential pain-in-the-ass next door, Kimmy is verbally abused as Saget waves a fierce hand in mock bitch-slap, even referring to her (not to mention his own wife, daughters, and Greek hair-spray icon John Stamos) at one point as Smeagol.
He revisited his contribution to The Artistocrats and even revealed some unnecessarily intimate information about Dave Coulier's personal grooming habits.
And somewhere in between he managed to insult the disabled athletes of the Special Olympics, make fun of his father's recent brush with death and joke about, um, intimate involvement with his daughter's friends (his daughters are all teenagers and he was born in 1956 - you do the math).
He ended with a rousing rendition of "Danny Tanner Wasn't Gay" and proved that it is never too late to reinvent your entire act. You can also catch him as the host of "1 vs 100."
And if that's just not enough, try to catch him live. He has a way of cutting hecklers down to size that would make Danny Tanner cringe.
Oh, and if you ever find yourself wondering about your spiritual path in life, check out Bob Saget Is God. Yes, that's right, some people just like him that much.
Can you blame them?
