- They've officially charged U Penn professor Rafael Robb in the bludgeoning death of his estranged wife, who was killed on December 22nd.
- Fattah's plan to beat Philly gun violence, which he announced yesterday, has three basic parts: more cops, better rewards for tips, and more surveillance cameras.
- What happens when there's a fire in the firehouse?? Apparently, the firefighters sustain a few injuries (thankfully none of them too serious), and the place gets boarded up. The fire started after a freak accident occurred with the 20-year-old pumper truck they were using while their regular pumper was in the shop. You've got to watch those loaner pumpers...
- The Feds are looking for another Philly bank robber. This one held up the PNC on North Broad near Nedro Avenue on Wednesday. "He was described as a black man in his 30s, 6-feet-1, wearing a black coat and black baseball cap." Call the FBI at 215-418-4000 if you have any info.
- Although we hate the term "cybrary" with a fiery passion, we do think it's cool that Philly's McCall School got a sweet new interactive, cyber library, thanks to some hard work and serious fundraising.
- Remember that story we mentioned way back about the young state employee who allegedly dropped his girlfriend after dangling her outside a window? Well, the guy's finally supposed to go on trial this week.
- The firing continues: 34 advertising employees at Philly's big papers were told yesterday that they would be laid off on January 22nd.
Okay, we'll admit it, this photo (via Flickr user leiderman) has nothing to do with anything we're talking about in this post - but damn, that was a great tackle, wasn't it?

Across the Ist-a-Verse

What does Dubya have to do with the Philly Housing Authority. You better be detailed in your explanation, 'cause I smell bullsh*t,
Anthony: The explanation is pretty simple and straightforward, actually, and there is no BS involved as far as I know. First of all, the PHA is laying people off due to federal budget cuts. As you know, Bush is pretty much the guy responsible for those. Furthermore, if you had read the article that I linked to in that particular bullet point, you would have come across the following sentence:
"Across the board, Greene and other PHA executives from this region blame the Bush administration for cutting federal funding by nearly 25%."
Btw, I assumed you were referring to the more recent Philly in the News post (http://www.phillyist.com/archives/2007/01/10/yo_philly_in_th_233.php), and not this one.
